How the system works
Hong Kong secondary entry, places allocation and secondary transfers
The formal Education Bureau system is the Secondary School Places Allocation System. This guide uses secondary entry to help parents distinguish admission routes.
Progressing from P6 to S1
The Secondary School Places Allocation System includes S1 Discretionary Places and Central Allocation. Secondary school nets differ from P1 school nets.
DSS secondary schools may participate in or operate outside the Secondary School Places Allocation System. Check each school's formal information for the relevant year.
Check each private school's formal information for that year's admission procedures and dates.
Check each international school's formal information for that year's admission procedures and dates.
Already studying in secondary school
Changing school while already in secondary education is a secondary transfer, separate from P6-to-S1 allocation. Ask schools about grade vacancies and application conditions.
Newly arrived children may seek Education Bureau placement assistance or enquire directly through schools' published channels.
