How the system works
Hong Kong P1 admission, allocation and primary transfers
Both may be described as P1, but entry in a new academic year and a transfer after starting school are different routes.
P1 in a new academic year
The Primary One Admission System for government and aided schools includes Discretionary Places Admission and Central Allocation. Check current Education Bureau documents for eligibility, dates, school nets and address proof.
DSS schools admit pupils through their own published arrangements. Primary One Admission System dates are not automatically DSS school deadlines.
Check private school application dates individually. Primary One Admission System dates cannot be assumed to be private school deadlines.
Check international school application dates individually. Primary One Admission System dates cannot be assumed to be international school deadlines.
Check formal ESF information for each school's application dates. Primary One Admission System dates cannot be assumed to be ESF school deadlines.
Already studying in P1
A child already studying in P1 in the current academic year who seeks to change school follows a primary transfer route. Enquire about P1 transfers for the current year. This differs from the next year's Primary One Admission System.
Direct transfer enquiries do not establish that places are available. The school must confirm vacancies, application dates and required documents.
