How the system works
Hong Kong secondary school Bands and rankings: unofficial information
Distinguish pupil allocation bands, school information and unofficial ranking lists.
The system and common terminology
Bands 1, 2 and 3 in secondary places allocation refer to pupil allocation bands, not official Education Bureau school rankings. A pupil band must not be presented as an official school grade.
Education Bureau records provide basic school information. This project has not found an official Education Bureau ranking of all Hong Kong primary schools, and does not treat secondary Bands as official whole-school ratings.
User-supplied school rankings or tier charts, when displayed, are marked as unofficial references. Each must state its publisher, year and original source, separately from Education Bureau information.
EMI school is a common parental shorthand for an English-medium school. It is not an official Education Bureau whole-school ranking or a uniform teaching-language field verified by this platform. Check formal school publications for subject-level arrangements.
CMI school is a common parental shorthand for a Chinese-medium secondary school. It is not an official Education Bureau whole-school ranking or a uniform teaching-language field verified by this platform. Check formal school publications for subject-level arrangements.
Teaching Chinese in Putonghua usually refers to arrangements for the Chinese-language subject, not the use of Putonghua for every subject. Consult the school's publications.
